Alex Hebert, a carpenter in civilian life, served in World War I.  His photo is found among the Dudley Turnbull, Jr. Family Papers.  Hebert was the brother of Juanita Hebert Turnbull, who in turn was the wife of Dudley Turnbull, Jr., a descendant of free people of color.

We’ve not been able to uncover much additional information about Alex Hebert or how he fared in the war, so we welcome any history that readers can provide.
