Hello, and welcome to the “Free People of Color in Louisiana: Revealing an Unknown Past” blog! Over the next two years, we will be sharing our discoveries here and keeping you posted regarding the digitization process and creation of the digital collection.

“Free People of Color in Louisiana: Revealing an Unknown Past” is an NEH grant-funded project that will bring together collections pertaining to free people of color in Louisiana and the lower Mississippi Valley held by LSU Special Collections, the Louisiana State Museum in New Orleans, the New Orleans Public Library, The Historic New Orleans Collection, and Tulane University’s Louisiana Research Collection. The collection will reside in the Louisiana Digital Library, where the public can freely access these collections. To learn more about the grant and the history of free people of color, please check out the grant narrative.
